Every coach is shaped by influences that define their approach, whether a
mentor, a philosophy, or prevailing trends in the sport.
In the Book of Ruth, set during the chaotic days of the judges, we see a story
of profound loyalty, kindness, and redemption. Ruth, a Moabite widow, clings
faithfully to her Israelite mother-in-law Naomi, declaring, “Where you go, I will
go, and where you stay, I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God
my God” (Ruth 1:16). Through her unwavering commitment and Boaz’s role as
kinsman-redeemer, God transforms tragedy into blessing, leading to the birth
of Obed, ancestor of David and ultimately Jesus. This book calls us to let God’s
redeeming love and faithfulness shape not just how we coach, but how we live.
